What does it look like to innovate by expanding your business? Look no further than Modern Foundations located in Woodbine, Maryland. Bruce Neale is founder and owner of Modern where he has built a corporation that provides many levels of product and service based in concrete. A family generation business, his sons, Michael and Jason have grown up watching, learning and implementing that same spirit of curiosity. Coupled with this passion for business and interest in being challenged to be different, Bruce found the advantage of embedding himself deeply in organizations that can expand his thinking through the wisdom and experience of colleagues. A past president for the Concrete Foundations Association and a member of his local Home Builders Association he has found balance between local and national participation to see how others run their businesses and bring that back to challenge his company to be better. His customers have benefitted from this as much as his company, realizing more than the standard turn-key solution, now being able to see a variety of product solutions and approaches to fit their interests and needs.
Jim Baty and Bruce found a few moments this past winter during the World of Concrete 2020 (#WOC2020) to discuss this incredible diversity and desire to be challenged that has evolved at Modern Foundations. As host for Behind the Mic, Jim probes these topics to allow many windows into the culture that Bruce and his family members have crafted and grown throughout their organizations that now include Stone Shooters and MFI Concrete, to name a few.
